Oversee and coordinate the planning, solution design, execution and implementation of various strategic and operational activities of the IT department, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business strategies and operations. The Director of IT Engineering provides technical direction for owned products and platforms.
Essential Functions:

  • Contribute to and execute the Enterprise Data Roadmap for technical direction of data asset development, methodologies, tools and solution architecture.
  • Contribute, collaborate and support IT vision for technology eco-system in alignment with Architecture Review Board Policy, Standards and guidance.
  • Partner with customer leaders to ensure positive working relationship and alignment among IT and business customers. Ensure solution delivery provides measurable business value.
  • Actively participate in industry groups dedicated to data technology and security management.
  • Collaborate with IT leaders to provide leadership for planning, developing and implementing information technology initiatives across all areas of the organization.
  • Partner with business decision makers to ensure scoping, requirements and design of technology solutions and ongoing support is in alignment with needs.
  • Owns assigned software platforms/applications and works with architect and business decision makers to incorporate necessary technical advancements into the application road maps.
  • Exercise leadership influence and direction with her/his organization to develop, optimize and manage application and/or infrastructure to attain all IT service level agreements for the user community within the organization.
  • Participate in the analysis and selection of 3rd party software solutions to support business objectives in line with architecture strategy.
  • Ensure continued focus on building a strong IT capability through people, process and technology.
  • Contribute to future state technology road map definitions and makes recommendations to ensure effective investments are made to enable scale, quality, and maintenance and overall cost effectiveness; measure the effectiveness of the technology capability delivery and takes prompt action to close gaps.
  • Stays current on industry trends and the use of emerging technologies that can contribute business value to their area helping to instill an engineering culture within the organization.
  • Effectively manage detailed resource plans, forecasts and expertise needs of internal and external resources; contribute to planning of strategic skill mix decisions.
  • Direct teams and provide leadership guidance in the troubleshooting and analysis of operational problems to seek prompt resolutions.
  • Manage vendor relationships on an operational/project/program level, while ensuring effective integration, as needed, into overall IT capability.
  • Responsible for training and developing individuals in the Team Leader/Manager role (if applicable) on employee development and handling of Corrective Action situations; responsible for employee development and handling of Corrective Action situations if there is no Team Leader/Manager on staff.

  • Ensure effective technology support and maintenance strategies are in place and actions are taken to address gaps and measure outcomes.
  • Drive and reinforce commitment to internal controls processes such as those under Model Audit Rule and Record Information Management.
  • Support and contribute to success of the overall technology transformation through committed quality delivery, continuous improvement, innovation enablement and leadership coaching, development planning and example setting.
  • Lead by example, coaching, mentoring and infusing the technology team with the right leadership thinking and motivation to help them develop and grow to ensure overall organizational success.
  • Budget and manage financial plans as directed, while maintaining an awareness of industry benchmarks to serve as a basis of comparison.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Administration required
    • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration with technology as a core component or equivalent work experiences preferred
    • Minimum 8 years' applicable experience leading and/or directing a sizeable and representative IT planning, application development and/or infrastructure organization preferred
    • Leadership experience with data technology required.
    • Previous experience with Cloud Technology in the data space required.
    • Experience measuring data quality and data security required.
    • Proven ability to inspire and influence others in support of achieving goals.
    • Snowflake and Informatica experience preferred.
    • Previous Life Insurance industry experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated consistent leadership effectiveness in technology and business related strategic planning, operations, implementation delivery and overall IT capability (people, process, technology) development
    • Working knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations and end to end integration models; Must be aware of industry recognized best practices
    • Significant exposure to systems management, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems, vendor management, including management of offshore/near shore resources with keen awareness of technology and related business trends; Proven experience and ability in managing systems complexity with positive outcomes
    • Demonstrated, proven understanding and track record of high quality project management and execution
    • Working knowledge of applicable industry laws and regulations as they relate to IT
    • Established leadership track record of human capital management and succession principles, practices, and procedures
    • Demonstrated effective negotiating and influence leadership skills
    • Demonstrated ability to present and adapt ideas in a business and user friendly language
