What you will do:
SUMMARY
The Safety Manager will serve as the focal point for safety matters in the GCC North. This person will work with employees at all locations to enhance safety culture, maintain a safe work environment, and oversee safety related programs. Additionally, the Safety Manager will assist with the development and implementation of safety and health programs, coordinate safety training programs, and provide technical support to Operations teams to ensure compliance with Federal and State safety and health laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and others as assigned:

  • Field Activities
  • Visit minimum two locations of operation weekly to observe and reinforce safety policies and practices.
  • Visit minimum two contractor locations weekly to observe and reinforce safety policies and practices.
  • Schedule monthly One on One Safety/Operations meeting with each department Manager i.e. Aggregate, Ready Mix, Customer Service, QC, and Transportation
  • Schedule annual site Safety inspections for each operation site with Department Manager, Maintenance Manager
  • Participate in Afternoon Production calls
  • Process Injury Reports
  • Communicate with Risk Manager
  • Investigate work comp claims as necessary
  • Collect documentation for all claims
  • Manage light duty/transitional return to work program for injured employee
  • Process Incident reports for Auto and General Liability to include DOT and Non-DOT accidents/incidents
  • Track all accidents/incidents with Admin help
  • Process invoices to Risk Manager for payments incurred
  • Investigate windshield/minor property damage made by 3rd parties
  • Conduct in-depth incident investigations on high profile claims
  • Train management team on proper incident investigations and reporting
  • Participate in weekly incident calls to help determine root cause, corrective action, and best practices
  • Employee Files
  • Prepare annual reconciliation of MVR and Certificate of Violation for each CDL driver
  • Coordinate with HR to Manage and track Safety Training files for each employee, i.e. Loader training, forklift training, and job specific training
  • Manage and track Audiogram/Respiratory fit testing CPR/First Aid training
  • Training
  • Perform New Hire orientation - 2.5 days
  • Manage and train Safe driving Program
  • Manage for Admin, Review all documentation and training files for new hires
  • Release new drivers from training ride along
  • Perform 30day / 90day check ride on new drivers
  • HOS/Status Changes Tablet management and knowledge
  • Maintain library of safety related training materials
  • Manage/teach training exercises - Forklift/Loader/Crane/Skid loader/Fall protection/LOTOTO/HAZCOM/etc.
  • Prepare updates to manuals as directed
  • Create safety alerts and safety shorts
  • Coordinate MSHA - Annual refresher, New Miner training
  • Evaluate safety program and determine goals annually based off safety KPI's
  • Drug and Alcohol Program
  • Track all drug screens for DOT reporting purposes
  • Provide immediate notification to Safety Director of any drug or alcohol violations or positive tests
  • Safety
  • Track all required information to complete Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
  • Track Safety Meetings with employee attendance w/Admin help.
  • Forward Safety KPI's to Safety Director monthly
  • Maintain good communication with front line management regarding safety issues, PPE needs, etc.
  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment by complying with all health and safety policies, standard practices, and programs
  • Perform regularly scheduled safety audits and inspections of projects and facilities. Complete appropriate follow-up and reports.
  • Maintain spreadsheet for safety audits deficiencies and abatement dates.
  • BBS Behavioral Base Safety - Report participation, safety catches, and actionable items.
  • Represent District in local industry safety associations.
  • Administration
  • Maintain comprehensive filing systems including archival and storage inventories
  • Maintain all safety department records according to established guidelines
  • Prepare applicable reports as assigned
  • Audit Electronic Hours of Service records
  • Prepare and distribute OSHA reports as required
  • Participate in OSHA, MSHA and DOT inspections and maintain compliance with record keeping requirements.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Administration's safety regulations.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    • 3 to 5 years of management and leadership experience.
    • Bachelors Degree or Years of experience in Safety and/or Ready mix industry
    • Previous experience in safety and health preferably in ready mix, construction, or transportation industry.
    • Knowledge of regulatory agencies (MSHA, FMCSA, OSHA, DENR) and experience working with them.
    • Familiar with standard/industry concepts, practices, and procedures within the safety field.
    • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • SKILLS
    • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Must have Excellent Computer/data entry skills. (MS Office, Web based platforms)
    • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Must be an effective problem-solver; proactive approach to problem solving.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Ability to evaluate and address safety issues in a professional manner.
    • Must be able to multi-task
    • Ability to work autonomously
    • LANGUAGE SKILLS
    • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to write detailed and complex correspondence.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • REASONING ABILITY
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written, or oral instructions.

      • Must possess valid operator's driver license
