The University of Sioux Falls, a vibrant private institution in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is seeking a management team-level position as the Vice President for Business and Finance. This position works directly with the President, acts as a member of the Management Team, and is responsible for providing collaborative leadership for the institution's financial operations Applications will be reviewed immediately and accepted until the position is successfully filled. POSITION SUMMARY - The University of Sioux Falls, a Christian University in the liberal arts tradition, seeks a senior-level leader with demonstrated results-oriented fiscal management and proven management experience . The position is responsible for providing leadership for the University's financial, budgetary, and accounting operations. Position functions include serving as a principal liaison, in conjunction with the President, in keeping the Board of Trustees apprised on financial matters pertaining to the stability and welfare of the University. The person in this position will work cooperatively with the Management Team as well as directors and other employees critical to managing the fiscal affairs of the institution. The Vice President for Business and Finance is a senior-level administrator and reports directly to the President of the University. Supervisory responsibilities of the Vice President for Business and Finance include Business Office, Student Accounts Office, Accounts Payable, and Cougar Central (bookstore and mailroom operations). MAJOR FUNCTIONS The Vice President for Business and Finance is responsible for oversight of the business operation of the - institution. A primary function of this position is to provide strategic and entrepreneurial leadership while managing the University's financial, budgetary, and accounting operations. - The individual hired for this position must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and assist in identifying new sources of revenue for the University to continue to accomplish its long-standing Christian and academic mission. The VP for Business and Finance also serves as liaison to external auditors, the Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees of the Board of Trustees. The functions listed are essential to the successful performance of this position; however, this job announcement is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, or efforts associated with this position. QUALIFICATIONS Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree required with significant business, accounting, or financial management experience in a complex organization, preferably in higher education or a non-profit organization.
  • Preferred: A Master's Degree or the equivalent in a discipline related to the position, preferably Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, with at least five years of senior-level experience in higher education, business, finance, or a non-profit.
  • The CPA certification is preferred but is not required of the successful candidate. Preferred Experience:
    • Successful financial management experience in higher education, a non-profit, or business operation at a high-level leadership level with a strong understanding of non-profit accounting and financial management with the advanced accounting ability to provide financial leadership in a university setting.
    • Demonstrated competency in public accounting and audit functions.
    • Proven entrepreneurial mindset that allows for innovation and creative solutions within the consideration of sensible risk tolerance and best practices
    • Innovative and collaborative management style and a strong work ethic contribute to a unified team effort and University and departmental success. -
    • Proven progressive responsibility in the area of planning and financial management at a senior level, including a demonstrated understanding of a system of financial accounting, which includes overseeing the chart of accounts, working with staff accountants to ensure timely and accurate maintenance of the general ledger, maintenance of cash flow statements, allocation of costs appropriately, and the preparation of the monthly financial statements; working with financial aid and scholarships; private gifts, endowments, and annuities; enrollment figures, projections, and forecasting.
    • Ability and experience in successfully managing the University's budget, developing budget scenarios and new initiatives, leading the budgeting process, and ensuring that all expense budgets and income projections are current and accurate.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze, explain, and present financial information in small and large group settings
    • Proficient with key technology like Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and various accounting software and ability to learn new.
    • Experience in strategic planning, strengthening financial systems, and understanding and operating automated accounting systems in a non-profit setting.
    • The ability to positively manage multiple office areas in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
    • Robust planning and organizational skills, including building and managing multiple relationships and collaborating in a university setting.
    • Commitment to the Christian faith and the Christian mission of the University.
