position has not yet been filled. Description The Department of
Internal Medicine at the University of California, UC Davis Health,
seeks a successful physician-leader to serve as Chief of the
Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. This
full-time position will be at the Associate or Full Professor level
in the Professor (tenure-track)/Professor In Residence Series
(50%/50%) or Professor (tenure-track)/ClinX Series (50%/50%). This
position will be eligible to be named the Gordon A. Wong, M.D.,
Endowed Professorship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The
Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine reports to the
Chair of the Department of Medicine. The Chief provides
administrative leadership of the Division's clinical services,
educational programs, research initiatives, and budget and resource
allocation. The Chief will be directly involved in teaching,
research, and clinical service in their area of specialization. The
Chief will be expected to provide leadership by strengthening the
division clinical and research endeavors in the face of the rapidly
changing healthcare landscape; improving clinical and epidemiologic
research and academic programs; enhancing and establish and build
strong partnerships within the School of Medicine, the entire UC
Davis Campus, and other healthcare providers in the region.
Candidates must possess an M.D. degree, be board certified in
Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, and must be eligible
for licensure in the State of California. The successful candidate
will be a clinician-scientist with a record of outstanding
achievement in bench or translational research in Critical Care as
evidenced by publications, extramural funding, and leadership
positions. The candidate must have the ability to oversee the
Divisional curricular programs and clinics. The candidate must have
the ability to develop and implement plans for strategic growth and
development of the division's research, teaching and clinical
missions. Candidates must have interest in and the ability to
teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Candidates must
possess the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a
diverse environment. The Chief will possess the following qualities
and characteristics: --- The ability to anticipate change and
implement initiatives to meet the challenges of academic
medicine and managed care and to work cooperatively and collegially
within a diverse, complex and dynamic environment. --- Excellent
interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to build and
maintain relationships
with faculty, administration, trainees, and medical, nursing, and
technical staff. --- Exceptional leadership skills, with the proven
ability to foster a spirit of unity and collaboration across
a major clinical department. --- A strong understanding of both
research and clinical practice in medicine. --- A commitment to
transparency and an inclusive management style. --- Demonstrated
experience in recruiting top faculty and/or students. --- Financial
budgeting and resource management skills. --- Demonstrated
commitment to valuing and actively promoting diversity ---
Exceptional planning and organizational skills, superb
follow-through, and timely task completion. The candidate must meet
requirements for appointment as Associate or Full Professor in the
Ladder Rank (Tenure-track) and In Residence Series or ClinX Series.
The principal qualification for appointment in this series is a
national or international reputation in scholarship (demarcated by
publications, grants, and awards) along with demonstrated
excellence in teaching. This recruitment is conducted at and the
resulting hire will be at the Associate/Full rank. For first full
