The specialty of orthopedics encompasses medical, surgical, gerontology, trauma and orthopedic nursing skills. The patients range from adolescent to geriatric. Patient-focused care is the concept of the 41-bed orthopedic unit.

The Center for Joint Success provides early teaching and family participation in a team environment. Our orthopedic practice is one of a few in the nation with four Joint Commission Specialty Certifications in Orthopedics.

The eight-bed NACU is an intermediate unit for acute stroke and transitional patients from the intensive care unit to the general unit. The unit also has a Joint Commission Specialty Certification in primary stroke care. Neurology encompasses patients who may have had a stroke, head injury or spinal injury.

Sanford Children s neonatal intensive care unit provides the latest medical, physical and emotional care to critically-ill babies and their families. As a Level IV NICU, our team tends to all newborns needing specialized care with advanced equipment and providers trained to give the highest level of care. Our 45 single family unit rooms ensure over 58 infants can receive care from our multidisciplinary team of specialists and physicians, pharmacists, therapist, child service specialists, nurses and several other disciplines.

At Sanford Children s, our unit is setting the standard for neonatal intensive care nationwide through our membership to the National Institute of Health s Neonatal Research Network one of only 15 sites in the nation.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates patient care, assessment, education, triage and various other nursing interventions
  • Collaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care
  • Empathetically cares for patients during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of care
  • Demonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertise
    Qualifications

    Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor s Degree in nursing preferred.

    Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
