Summary
This position serves as an Employee Whole Health Coordinator at a
Sioux Falls VA Medical Center/Health Care System. The Employee
Whole Health Coordinator is responsible for developing, managing,
maintaining, planning, and administering health and well-being
opportunities for Medical Center/Health Care System and CBOC
employees.

Duties
Employee Whole Health Program Development 50%
Establishes and chairs the Employee Whole Health Committee.
Assembles a diverse planning team of interdisciplinary health
professionals and representatives from various services within the
medical center including labor partners. Works with the committee
to develop a charter, goals and strategic plan for the Employee
Whole Health program, and ensures the plan is updated annually.
Represents Employee Whole Health on the Whole Health Committee to
ensure collaboration on wellness initiatives that may be beneficial
to both Veteran patients and employees when feasible.
Conducts needs assessment(s) of employees to determine program
needs and interests. Develops core program components based on
assessment results.
Collaborates with other services on the assessment of the health
needs of employees. Consults with specific services such as Safety,
Human Resources, Veterans Canteen Service and Occupational Health
to identify employees at highest risk for injury or illness
identifying strategies to help lessen the risk within these
groups.
Develops and delivers classes, seminars, workshops, etc. on various
Employee Whole Health topics including but not limited to
nutrition, physical activity, and mental health topics or works to
identify and collaborates with relevant subject matter experts.
Responsible for scheduling, approving instructors, selecting
classes and activities, and organizing events. Integrates concepts,
practices and tools that support the WH system of care. Utilizes
materials and resources available on the WH library.
Develops training materials for staff educational needs. Ensures
newly hired employees are trained and oriented to the Employee
Whole Health program and key activities as part of new employee
orientation (NEO).
Health Assessment and Coaching 20%
Implements use of available individual health assessments to
determine employee wellness strengths and opportunities (i.e.,
Personal Health Inventory (PHI), Healthy Living Assessment (HLA)),
and tracks employee improvement and goal attainment as
appropriate.
Consults with service chiefs and managers to maintain high program
visibility and advise them resolving program challenges. Serves as
the contact and coordinator for National and local employee whole
health opportunities to be offered to employees. Conduct program
evaluations and track outcomes to assess and improve program
effectiveness and make recommendations to facility leadership to
improve mission readiness and program delivery.
Creates a personalized health plan (PHP) with employees who desire
one by exploring the employees mission, aspiration and purpose
(MAP); creates goals and action plans with the employee based on
his/her MAP.
Models healthy behavior and provides support and encouragement to
employees as it relates to behavior change. Provides health
coaching to employees on an individual basis or in a group
setting.
Program Administration and Reporting 30%
Formulates, organizes, sets priorities, and implements a
well-balanced plan that ensures the success of the employee whole
health program. Coordinate a team to ensure effective delivery of
the program based on sound, evidence-based nutrition, exercise and
mental health principles. Facilitate employee and environment
assessment to encourage and support health and wellbeing at the
facility and CBOCs. Coordinate with services to ensure availability
of opportunities to meet program needs.
Promotes the Employee Whole Health program to all employees on all
shifts throughout the medical center and Community Based Outpatient
Clinics (CBOCs). Collaborates with the Employee Whole Health
Committee and Public Affairs to develop a communications and
marketing plan. Consults with service chiefs and managers to
maintain high program visibility and advises them on staff
involvement.
Writes proposals for annual funding opportunities as made available
by the national Employee Whole Health program office. Consults with
members of the Employee Whole Health Committee to determine funding
priorities and completes all application requirements in a timely
fashion. If funded, ensures funds are spent per guidelines and all
proposal requirements are met.
Maintains and updates local policies and procedures related to
Employee Whole Health.
Manages program budget and is the fund control point official for
the Employee Whole Health program. Works with Fiscal Service,
Compliance, Logistics, and approving officials to ensure proper
purchasing selection and procedures.

Grade Determinations:
Dietitian (Facility Program Coordinator), GS-12.
Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower
grade level (GS-11). Which is defined as: Delivering patient care
using the NCP (e.g., assessment, diagnosis, intervention,
monitoring and evaluation); Interpreting research to apply
evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes;
Developing patient-centered goals; Analyzing data for performance
improvement studies; Collaborating with stakeholders. Complying
with various accrediting, regulatory and agency authorities.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: In addition to the
experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following
