Why Sanford:
The specialty of orthopedics encompasses medical, surgical,
gerontology, trauma and orthopedic nursing skills. The patients
range from adolescent to geriatric. Patient-focused care is the
concept of the 41-bed orthopedic unit.
The Center for Joint Success provides early teaching and family
participation in a team environment. Our orthopedic practice is one

Certifications in Orthopedics.
The eight-bed NACU is an intermediate unit for acute stroke and
transitional patients from the intensive care unit to the general

in primary stroke care. Neurology encompasses patients who may have
had a stroke, head injury or spinal injury.
At Sanford Medical Center, the care of critically-ill adult
patients occurs in three separate critical care units that are
covered by the same nursing staff. Critical Care 2000 is a 12-bed
pulmonary/medical critical care unit. Critical Care 3000 is a
15-bed trauma, surgical and neurocritical care unit. Critical Care
2800 is a 12-bed acuity adaptable unit for cardiothoracic and
vascular surgery patients.
The units are staffed 24/7 with in-house intensivist services and
daily coverage by three specialty services: pulmonary, surgical and
neurocritical care. The staff works closely with the intensivist,
surgical critical care team and neurocritical care team as well as
other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide
goal-directed care.
