Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description:
POSITION PURPOSE Under limited supervision and/or according to
established policy and procedure,isresponsible for receiving,
accessioning, and processing patient specimens in preparation for
testing according to established laboratory procedures. Lab
Processors are also responsible for handling phone calls,
processing patient data, placing test
orders/resultsandmaintaininglaboratory records. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Knows, understands, incorporates, anddemonstratesthe Trinity
Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and
decisions. - Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to
provide serviceappropriate tothe age of the patients served,in
accordance withMercyOne standards. - Is knowledgeable of and
activelyparticipatesin improving patient safety and reducing risk
to patients.Complies withSafety and Infection Control Policies and
Procedures. - Is proficient in theappropriate designateduse of
Laboratory Information System, to include but not be limited to,
department order entry, specimen log-in,modifycollections, reprint
labels, printing collection lists, printing pending collections,
and other basic computer functions. - Is responsible forreceiving,
appropriatelyloggingand verifying receipt of all specimen types in
the laboratory according to laboratory policy and procedure
including centrifuge of specimens whereappropriate. Also
distributes those specimens appropriately to the designated testing
areas of the laboratory. - Effectivelycommunicateswith laboratory
staff and clients in a professional manner. Responds promptly and
courteously to client requests, concerns, and questions. -
Activelyparticipatesin departmental meetings, committees,
conferences, professional development opportunities and
in-services. - Recognizes and communicates
issues/occurrencesutilizingestablished lines of authority
andassistsinidentifyingways to resolve variances or unacceptable
outcomes. - Responsible for handling phone calls, processing
patient data, placing test orders/resultsandmaintaininglaboratory
records. - Operation of pneumatic tube system for the receiving of
various specimen types and sending of patient records as needed. -
Complies withhealth and safety standards and guidelines such
asmaintaininga safe environment,reportingand recording of health
and safety-related incidents,demonstratingunderstanding of
emergency plans, and safe use of department equipment. - Maintains
confidentiality of informationpertaining toclients, physicians,
employees, and MercyOne business. - Performs other duties and
responsibilities as assigned. - Maintains a working knowledge of
applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity
Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as
well as other policies and proceduresin order toensure adherence in
a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High School Diploma or GEDrequired.
Knowledge of medical terminologypreferred. - Previousexperience or
knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations and
other office equipmentdesired. - Must be organized, able to
prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.Must possess good
human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both
orally and in written form. - Must be able to accommodate
scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work
assignments. - Is able tocommunicate effectively with all members
of the health care team. - Is able toperform a variety of duties
characterized by frequent change. - Must have a general working
knowledge of computers and department specific software
(i.e.Healthstream, internet, etc.) - Mustpossessexcellent verbal
and written communications skills, presentation skills, advanced
analytical skills, be wellorganizedandmaintaina highly professional
manner and appearance. - Strong interpersonal, consultative and
relationship building skillsin order toinitiate and develop
productive collaborativepartnershipwith all levels of leadership
across the organization. Ability to effectively influence results,
garnersupportand tactfully manage complex relationships within and
across the organization.Extremelyhighlevelof diplomacy and
tactarerequired.Ability to read the subtle nuances of situation and
react/plan accordingly. - Must be comfortable operating in a
