License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Must
have prior experience in acute care settings. Description: The
staff occupational therapist is responsible for providing
individualized occupational therapy treatment. The occupational
therapist has knowledge of appropriate age-related treatments and
evaluations. The therapist may treat individuals of all ages with
various diagnoses, including orthopedic, neurological, and general
medical disorders. The occupational therapist must possess the
skills to evaluate and treat medically complex and often unstable
patients. This role involves ongoing assessment and adjustment of
treatment plans. Critical thinking skills are essential for
patients with multiple diagnoses. Knowledge of normal/abnormal
vital signs and various medical equipment is necessary. The
therapist must be able to recommend appropriate discharge
destinations. Managing a high-volume caseload and dynamic schedule
is required, often needing rescheduling and prioritization.
Flexibility and problem-solving skills are necessary to address
roadblocks. The ability to communicate with an interdisciplinary
team ensures patient safety and comfort. Collaboration regarding
discharge planning and resource utilization is essential. Advanced
critical thinking skills are needed to make recommendations for
therapy services. The occupational therapist functions within the
scope and standards of practice as outlined by relevant regulatory
bodies. Supervision of certified occupational therapist assistants,
aides, and students may be required. This position demands a
commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Weekends may be required once a month. No on-call duty is required
