Ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients. Documents a thorough medical history from patient. Contributes to the assessment of patients and administers medications or treatments as ordered. Provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. Counseling patients and family members, under the direction of a registered nurse, on prevention and treatment plans. The LPN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. MA - The Medical Assistant (MA) functions within the administration pre-defined scope of practice guidelines per state location of practice. The MA in the ambulatory care setting collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. Participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals; and following through on the patient's plan of care under the direction of the provider. Communicates the provider's written instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver, by transmission of specifically defined information. Will participate in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. A sampling of the specialized clinical duties performed includes, but is not limited to, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms, and performing point of care testing. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES LPN - Participate in health teaching developed by a licensed practitioner or registered nurse. Participate and be part of a healthcare team to conduct focused nursing assessments and contribute to the plan of care. Observe patients, document and report changes in patient condition, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and take any necessary action. Implement interventions that are assigned, ordered or prescribed by licensed practitioner or registered nurse. Follows safety measures to ensure proper use of equipment and supplies. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Contribute to the evaluation of the plan of care by gathering, observing, recording and communication patient responses to nursing interventions. Communicate relevant information with patients and health team members to ensure quality and continuity of care. Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Promote a safe and therapeutic environment by providing appropriate monitoring and surveillance of the care environment. MA - Demonstrates open, friendly, accepting, and supportive behaviors with team members. Demonstrates the ability to follow directions. Guides patients in scheduling appointments and laboratory tests according to established processes and policies. Logs drug/medication data into a computer and maintains computerized records. Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a licensed provider or registered nurse. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients. Understands medical terminology associated with the contents of patient charts. QUALIFICATIONS LPN Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse. If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. MA Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program. Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Nationally certified or registered as a Medical Assistant (MA). Certification (CMA) obtained through a nationally approved certification program for medical assistant, including but not limited to, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the Nation Health Career Association (NHCA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), etc. Registration (RMA) obtained through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) also acceptable. Additional state requirements include: South Dakota (SD) registration as a MA through the SD Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners. North Dakota (ND) registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing. MAs working within Minnesota (MN) and Iowa (IA) do not require state registration. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of employment. Re-certification as required.
