Job Description:
General Responsibility Statement:The Human Resources Generalist
position is responsible for working with employee relations,
recruiting and staffing, HRIS and other HR software, employee
recordkeeping, filing and other administrative tasks, and training.
Requires a professional, self-motivated individual who is able to
work with others to resolve conflicts and mediate in employee
issues. Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, changing
environment. This role's responsibilities spread among all
Maintainer locations (Sheldon, IA; Rock Rapids, IA; etc.).Essential
Job Responsibilities: Manage the Human Resources Generalist
function providing human resources expertise and counsel to
Maintainer Managers, Supervisors, and Lead Specialists.Responsible
for the timely recruitment of full-time, non-exempt employees
including: Sourcing resumes and applications, pre-screening,
background checks, postings, interviewing, new hire orientation and
maintaining all appropriate files.Coordinates major company events
(All Staff meetings, end of year parties, birthdays, celebrations,
etc.) - may include an activity committee or other Maintainer
employees as necessary.Works closely with the Human Resources
Manager in the identification, investigation and resolution of
employee relations issues. May include interviewing and
investigation tasks.Administers and communicates corporate policies
including fair and equitable disciplinary practices. Tracks and
analyzes turnover data and develops and implements retention
plans.Conducts employee training, development, and orientation
programs. Collects data, makes observations, and recommends
improvements to existing programs where necessary.Partners with
Lead Specialists to institute and maintain Non-Exempt training,
employee engagement and talent development programs.Champion
positive employee relations and maintain positive relationship with
workforce. Execute on-boarding activities for new hires, transfers
and promotions. Ensure that all employees in new roles receive both
company context and job-specific details in order to maximize
probability for success.Provide legal and regulatory expertise as
it pertains to annual filings (EEO, VETS, ADA, AAP) as well as ad
hoc employee actions such as but not limited to involuntary
termination, reduction in force, severances, selection,
compensation decisions and discipline.Utilize payroll/HR software
to ensure that employee data is accurate in the system. May involve
data entry and other administrative duties.Remain current on human
resources trends and practices. Develop implementation plans for
value-creating ideas. Assures that corrective and disciplinary
action are administered fairly and per company policy.Partners with
local organizations and external contacts (community colleges,
vendors, etc.) on efforts related to recruitment, employee
development, and training efforts.Organizes custodial staff
responsibilities, performance, supplies etc.Works with the safety
department and completes safety-related tasks as assigned.Performs
other duties as assigned by Maintainer management. Qualification
Requirements:Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year
college/university with a focus in business, human resources, or a
related discipline. One or more years of HR professional experience
in a manufacturing environment preferred. Proficiency in all
Microsoft computer applicationsPHR or SHRM-CP certification
preferred Communication and Language skills:Must possess strong
business communication skills. Works well with others in one-on-one
and in group situations. Must be able to communicate effectively to
a wide range of employees from entry level to upper management. The
ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, legal
documents, policies, safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals is required. Must be able to
write routine reports and correspondence that project
professionalism and competence to both internal and external
customers. Must be capable of handling sensitive information in a
completely confidential manner. Physical Demands:While performing
the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit
and talk or hear for long periods of time. This position will
frequently be required to type and look at a computer screen for
long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use
hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The
employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee
must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is
frequently exposed to noise, fumes and or airborne particulate in
the manufacturing environment. When in the manufacturing
environment, the use of appropriate personal protective equipment
deemed necessary by the company is required.Other Skills and
Abilities:Possesses basic computer and keyboarding skills. Familiar
with all Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and Outlook. Qualified candidates must possess strong
people relations skills. Displays a positive attitude and friendly
personality towards internal and external customers. Must possess
strong verbal communication skills and the ability to handle
difficult conversations in a calm and professional manner at all
times.Ability and eligibility to drive a company vehicle or
personal vehicle for business purposes, as defined by the driving
policy. Supervisory Responsibilities:This position has no
