Our seasonal internship roles will be based in various locations across the country and offer potential travel opportunities for projects and assignments. You will have exposure and the opportunity to broaden your skills through impactful work, mentored relationships, and will gain real world exposure to different disciplines on Smithfield's team. Core Responsibilities Seasonal Interns - Operations handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to help deliver good food responsibly to America's dinner table. Seasonal Interns - Operations perform physically demanding work that requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength and stamina. Develop and execute process and procedures to alleviate challenges within your functional area Be available to work scheduled hours, which may include overtime, depending upon production demands. QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Agribusiness, Meat Science, Food Science, Animal Science or related major. Currently enrolled in a 4-year, 2-year or technical school. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD. Willingness to learn and work in a team environment. Proactive thinker and self-motivated. Strong time, project, and organizational management skills. The ability to work independently. Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment. Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics & physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision includes close vision and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
