This is a 9-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. The position is supervised by the Director of the newly formed School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies. We seek a colleague whose duties will include teaching criminology-related courses; maintaining an active, independent research agenda that includes peer-reviewed publications and grant activity; and service to the department.The Department of Sociology and Rural Studies is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community. Women, veterans, people with disabilities and minorities are encouraged to apply.RESPONSIBILITIES:* Teach courses in a proposed undergraduate criminology program. The successful applicant will teach courses in criminology, victimology, and social justice. The maximum teaching load is three courses per semester.* Undergraduate mentoring.* Research/scholarship.* Service activity within the department and University.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* Must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this position.* Candidate must have earned a PhD in Criminology or Sociology by the date of appointment.* Demonstrated teaching skills in the areas of criminology, victimology, and social justice.* Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:* Demonstrated record of, or strong potential for, conducting research and ability to facilitate research projects.* Potential for and interest in grant development and submission.* Demonstrated record of teaching criminology courses.* Ability to contribute to both the criminology and sociology programs in the department.* Research and/or teaching experience related to diversity, inclusion, and/or equity.* Demonstrated record of applied research or public outreach.BENEFITS:South Dakota State University offers a wide range of benefits including medical, dental, and flexible benefits, retirement plans, compensation packages, paid holidays, and vacation leave.
