Position Summary:The ATD takes a design or idea, dissects it to its working parts and does a feasibility study of how to order the parts and utilize appropriate labor and equipment to put the parts together. This role is part administrative and part hands-on and acts as point person for scenic shops and other vendors while managing the details needed to ensure the successful and safe installation of all productions and events.Essential Duties:1.Lead the installation crew to accomplish the full installation crew for any given experience, taking direction from a Technical Director.2.Feasibility studies-quoting timeline, total cost (labor, labor days, equipment, travel, shipping, taxes, manufacturer recommendations, ground surveys, foundational integrity surveys, engineering needs, etc.3.Organization and synthesis of technical and artistic information from client, production manager, and technical team.4.Communication with vendors, laborers, and client-based technical personnel for organization and execution of a project to the level of quality deemed necessary for the experience to be safe and professional-grade.5.Oversee compliance with safety practices both on the job-site and in the office6.Draft technical manuals for use and maintenance of custom items built for clients7.Maintain and update SOPs for install, strike, maintenance, and storage processesSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervises work of others (overhire/onsite crews), including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring,termination and pay adjustments, but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.Minimum Qualifications:EDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or GEDPreferred: Vocational or technical training - Field of Study: welding, engineering, rigging, carpentry,electronics, audio, construction, electrician. The knowledge needed for this position are often not found intraditional college educations. Technical theatre education will be the closest thing, but so would any educationin audio, lighting, electronics, rigging, welding, carpentry, design, 3D modeling software. It's a myriad oftechnical skills that makes this a helpful education.EXPERIENCE:3 to 4 years of experience in the technical entertainment field.At least 1 year of supervisory experience.LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Valid driver's license required. OSHA and similar construction safety certification(s) helpful.Key Competencies: -Basic knowledge of a working theatrical space - fly systems, rigging, rehearsal schedules, facility requirements, hanging/focusing lighting instruments, audio, running cabling, cable management, basic knots, awareness of other aspects of production and their needs from your position and from the space, basic carpentry, basic electrics, ability to interpret and create construction drawings, design drawings, light plots, ground plans, basic paperwork -Portable power distribution - familiarity with system preferred -Solutions-based troubleshooting -Friendly and proactive personality -Ability to interface with clients, coworkers, and laborers to maintain a positive work environment -Organizational skills - on computer, on jobsite -Excellent verbal communication skills and customer service - communicates through various mediumssuch as email, text, phone call, and in-person conversations. -Awareness of dangers and hazards associated with job functions and willingness to mitigate those risks -Experience leading and managing a teamWork Environment: While on-site, frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, orworking in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters. The Assistant Technical Director will often be on-site and need to work in hot/humid, cold/freezing, rain, and snow conditions to complete the job before the deadline. While in-office/ remote, there is a rare presence of abnormal variations in temperature and exposure to outside conditions.Physical Effort: Moderate - Physical effort represented by frequent handling of heavy objects (approx. 25- 50 lbs.) and materials, or heavy hand tools. While on-site the Assistant Technical Director frequently operates heavy equipment and heavy hand tools. Standing for long periods of time, but often kneeling, bending, working from back and at heights well over 50 feet. While in-office, physical effort is light.HazardsFrequent existing or potential hazards. Moderate existing or potential hazards. In office, there is very little exposure to hazards. While on-site, there is regular exposure to: working at heights over 50 feet, working in and around heavy equipment, exposure to chemicals and regular use of cutting tools such as saws and grinders.Contract Dates:October 3 - November 5Compensation:Budgeted at$1950/ weekAccommodations:Airfare, lodging, ground transportation provided
